(Patria) - Moscow believes that Belgrade will fulfill its promises and will not supply weapons to Ukraine, said Maria Zakharova, spokesperson for the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, today.
"We believe that Belgrade will strictly adhere to these promises," she said during a briefing, commenting on the statements of Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić regarding the sale of ammunition to the European Union (EU).
Zakharova said that the Serbian president makes one kind of statement when in Moscow and another in other regions, which, as she stated, creates the impression that Serbia has another president, Vučić.
"We have repeatedly received statements from the Serbian leadership, including at the highest level, that the export of ammunition of Serbian production is under strict control and that these products will not be supplied to Ukraine, so that Kyiv cannot use them against our soldiers," she emphasized, as reported by RIA Novosti.
Zakharova also said that the Russian army has repeatedly, as she stated, come to the aid of the friendly Serbian people.
"I refuse even to discuss, not only the possibility but the topic as a whole, that Russian soldiers, who throughout history have given their hearts in every sense of the word, giving their lives or declaring their love and loyalty to their Serbian brothers, will be hit or killed by Serbian weapons, ammunition, and shells," Zakharova said.
Russia's Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) previously announced that Belgrade is supplying ammunition to Kyiv, despite its declared neutrality.
Vučić said that deals would be canceled if Serbian authorities had questions about documents or the end user. On June 23, he announced that Serbia had suspended ammunition exports, demanding special arrangements for its dispatch abroad.
