Milo Đukanović elected honorary president of DPS

(Patria) - Former President of Montenegro Milo Đukanović has been elected honorary president of the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS), announced DPS President Danijel Živković last night after the congress.

Živković said that DPS had a successful congress and that important documents were considered. He said that a new Main Board of DPS was also elected.

- In a multi-hour discussion, we talked about the key policies of our party - Živković said at a press conference.

He emphasized that they analyzed the election results, but also discussed the current political situation in the country.

The party's Program was considered, he adds, as well as the Statute, where they made new solutions that improved the party's operational capabilities.

In the coming days, as he said, it will be known who will make up the new Main Board of the party, as well as the General Secretariat.

- We showed unity and strength - Živković assures.

He states that they also considered an important issue of the party's Program, which relates to ten important chapters and answers to the institutional and social collapse of Montenegro.

- I believe that through the Program, we have correctly assessed the challenges facing Montenegro and provided therapy through such a diagnosis - emphasizes Živković.

He notes that the main goal of DPS is to defend state interests and, through election results, to impose itself as a quality competitor and return to power as soon as possible.

He expressed hope that DPS will soon return to power and positions of socio-political decision-making.

The institution of honorary president, he said, is not new and exists in many parties.

Živković added that part of the public will never be satisfied, but it is clear that Đukanović represents an actor of many great achievements of DPS in the previous period.

- That is why we decided on this step - Živković explained.

As he emphasized, the previous period showed that DPS can successfully face all challenges, even when in opposition. He stated that the head of parliament, Andrija Mandić, has positioned himself as the leader of the parliamentary majority.

- We are ready to await the opinion of the Venice Commission - said Živković, speaking about the current crisis related to the retirement of some Constitutional Court judges and the non-holding of parliamentary sessions.

Živković also added that any political agreement must include a commitment not to amend the Constitution regarding identity issues.
