Milanović will not give consent for the new Israeli ambassador Nissan Amdur

(Patria) - The President of the Republic of Croatia, Zoran Milanović, will not give consent for the appointment of the proposed Ambassador of the State of Israel, Nissan Amdur.

The reason, as explained by Milanović's office, is the policy of the current Israeli government.

"Guided by good diplomatic practice, the Office of the President of Croatia has so far not publicly commented on any proposal from a country regarding the appointment of an ambassador to the Republic of Croatia.

The State of Israel has violated this unwritten rule by announcing the name of the proposed ambassador, even though he has not received the consent of the President of Croatia.

Given the actions of the Israeli side, the Office of the President of the Republic confirms that the proposed Ambassador of the State of Israel has not received, nor will receive, the consent of President Milanović, due to the policy of the current Israeli government.

Giving or withholding consent for proposed ambassadors is the sovereign right of the Republic of Croatia, and the President of the Republic decides on this matter.

Any public or political pressure, in this case from the Israeli side, will not change the decision of the President of the Republic," announced the Office of the President of Croatia.

Milanović is a sharp critic of the Israeli campaign in the Gaza Strip, which he called genocide, and the US-Israeli attack on Iran.

Nissan Amdur, who was approved in November as a replacement for the current ambassador Gary Koren, will arrive in Croatia at the end of May as a chargé d'affaires, for which the president's approval is not required, Times of Israel reported earlier today, calling Milanović an "anti-Israeli" politician.

The Israeli portal Ynet writes that this is the first case of a Croatian president refusing consent to a foreign ambassador, which represents a "serious breach of diplomatic protocol".

The Israeli ambassador Koren was summoned for a conversation at Pantovčak in early March, where he was warned about "unacceptable and harmful statements that disturb the public and harm Croatia", after he called on Zagreb to break diplomatic relations with Tehran and to check the staff of the Iranian embassy.
