Milanović: We have no enemy, we have Serbia with whom we cannot align relations

(Patria) - An excellent plan in warfare does not guarantee success, no plan guarantees failure - we see that now in Iran, in the Gulf, in a series of attempts, endeavors, and wanderings of the EU in the attempt and plan of armament, stated Croatian President Zoran Milanović yesterday.

- The EU is no longer a peace project, we are part of a society in which grand plans are forged, in whose strategic thinking we do not participate, we are too small, and they concern us - Milanović said.

He reminded that the European Union was created as a "project with a vision and a realistic achievable plan".

- That plan is a peace project and a trade union based on certain freedoms. The European Union was a gentle project with the goal of unification. The European Union as a project of peace and security - and not a war project into which it is transforming - can boast of being successful as a whole.

The European Union produces almost all categories of food for its needs and even a little more, and that is a big thing. Everything is produced in the European Union, but not everyone produces equally. Croatia produces almost nothing enough for its needs - said Milanović, adding that Croatia's poor foreign trade balance of goods and services is a topic for discussion and action.

Since the EU is increasingly transforming, as he put it, into a war project, Milanović wondered what kind of path this is for the European Union and what it is arming itself for?

- These are existential questions - believes the President of Croatia, who also called for caution so as not to be drawn into someone else's conflict.

- We have no enemy, in fact. We have Serbia with whom we cannot align relations - it would be great if that were possible - but for that, I see no culprit in Croatia, we are doing everything we can from our side. But, apart from that threat, we actually, for the first time in history, do not have someone we could call an enemy.

And we must be very careful if we are drawn, either by plan or by inertia, into some new global hostilities with countries that may not be likeable to us, and very often are not, but with which we do not want conflict - warned Milanović.

He also said that Croatia has the right to that kind of foreign policy.

- Not only do we have the right, it is our existential need: to be masters of our own house, with our own intelligence and our own assessments of what is good for us and what is not, what to engage in, where to actively participate, and where to withdraw and distance ourselves - concluded Milanović.
