(Patria) - After three and a half years, since the last session of the Croatian Defense Council was held, Prime Minister Andrej Plenković and President Zoran Milanović have agreed on a date for a new session.
It was confirmed to Hina yesterday by the President's Office that the session will be held on Friday, May 23, at Pantovčak.
The last session of the Defense Council was held in November 2021.
After winning a new term as head of state in January this year, Milanović again proposed to Prime Minister Plenković that they sit down together, which Plenković accepted this time.
However, before that, the Government was preparing military documents that the Council needs to discuss.
In April, the Prime Minister sent Milanović the draft of the Croatian Defense Strategy and the Long-Term Plan for the Development of the Croatian Armed Forces, and they agreed to hold a session in May, after the first round of local elections.
"The President of the Republic welcomes the fact that the Prime Minister has accepted his proposal to convene a session of the Defense Council to discuss the draft Defense Strategy of the Republic of Croatia and the draft Long-Term Plan for the Development of the Croatian Armed Forces.
The Office of the President of Croatia has received the drafts of the aforementioned documents, which will be analyzed in the coming weeks to enable a thorough discussion at the Defense Council session," the President's Office announced in mid-April.
Among the topics to be discussed is the introduction of mandatory military service, which the Government plans for the end of this year or the beginning of next year, by amending the Defense Act.
