Among Ljubljana's many attractions are Ključavničarska Street and the Butchers' Bridge

(Patria) - Ključavničarska, or "locksmith street," is one of the attractions of Ljubljana that you can stroll through in the city center, writes Punkufer.hr.

The alley, recognizable by the key symbol, is filled with sculptures of faces created by Slovenian artist Jakov Brdar.

The bronze masterpiece looks like a river of unusual faces flowing along a ditch in the middle of this interesting street.

A multitude of theatrical grimaces display various facial expressions - sad, tearful, frightened, as well as grotesque.



Brdar created them inspired by the words of the poet Rainer M. Rilke, who said he was surprised by the fact of how many faces there are in the world and how many each of us has.

Among that crowd, you can also spot bronze hands, as well as a trapped skeleton. The beginning of the path is marked by an image of a key, which was used to indicate the street name for those who could not read.



Unusual sculptures by the renowned Slovenian sculptor can be found throughout Ljubljana, and they are often inspired by Greek mythology, as is the case with the sculptures on the Butchers' Bridge in the city center.

The Butchers' Bridge, located where butcher shops once stood, is also known as the "bridge of love," where lovers symbolically lock their love with padlocks and then throw the keys into the Ljubljanica River.



Brdar's eerie but interesting sculptures of strange creatures point to the intriguing past of that place.

The contrast between his figures and the love padlocks makes for one of the most unusual Ljubljana stories that the city can offer its residents and visitors.
