Mass protests in Novi Sad

(Patria) - The groups "Sviće" and "Stav" are organizing a new protest today, December 8, near the City Assembly. Meanwhile, more than 20 state faculties in Belgrade, Novi Sad, and Niš have entered a blockade, demanding the publication of complete documentation on the reconstruction of the Railway Station in the capital of Vojvodina, as well as the identification of those responsible for the attack on students of the Faculty of Dramatic Arts. Yesterday, students of ETF, Architecture, and Civil Engineering organized the "Zastani Srbijo" (Stop Serbia) action at 11:52 AM on Bulevar kralja Aleksandra near the Vuk monument, announcing that they would continue this daily until their demands are met.

Today's protest in Novi Sad will symbolically begin at 11:52 AM, the time when the canopy at the Railway Station in that city collapsed, killing 15 and seriously injuring two people.

According to the organizers, the protest is being organized in front of the Assembly because it lost its legitimacy this week with the shameful debate on the dismissal of Mayor Milan Đurić, reports 021.

The plan is to leave red messages for the city authorities at the protest.

"Let's tell them that they no longer have the legitimacy to govern Novi Sad and that, regardless of repression, we will continue to seek justice," say the activists.

As they say, after last week's action, red traces were removed from Liberty Square for days.

"Let's see if they will manage to wash the bloody streets by Monday after this action, or if red messages will greet the city leaders. Bring paint," say the activists.

After that, they will go to the campus to support the students who are blocking the faculties.

They add that, if they wish, citizens can bring items to donate to the students: sleeping bags, mattresses, books, food, water, and the like.

They also announce that whistles, drums, pots, vuvuzelas, and other noise-making props should be brought to the protest.
