(Patria) - Kosovo Police early this morning began a search in several Serbian villages in the municipality of Zubin Potok and, according to unofficial local sources, there have been arrests, following last night's explosion and damage to the Ibar-Lepenac canal.
The police confirmed they are conducting an operation, but did not provide details nor confirm any arrests, RTS reports.
Local sources state that households in the villages of Varage, Ugljare and Zupče are being searched and that Kosovo Police are entering homes by force, leaving behind traces of vandalism and violence.
The searches involve members of a special unit who have blocked certain parts of the villages, causing concern among residents.
In the village of Varage near Zubin Potok, an explosion occurred last night that damaged the Ibar-Lepenac canal, cutting off the water supply.
Faruk Mujka, director of the water management company Ibar Lepenac, stated that field teams managed overnight to repair the system for water flow needed to cool turbines in the power plants in Obilić, but that regulating the water supply to municipalities in the north of Kosovo will still take time.
