(Patria) - The NATO Parliamentary Assembly today in Sofia voted to upgrade Kosovo's status from observer to associate member of the alliance.
According to the Albanian portal CNA, despite Serbia's opposition, the issue of upgrading Kosovo's status in NATO was included on the organization's agenda. It was officially announced that the MPs of the NATO Assembly will, among other things, "decide on the requests of Malta and the Assembly of Kosovo to become associate member delegations".
"Continuous challenges in the Western Balkans will be addressed, as well as strategies for supporting partners at risk and increasing engagement with the global South," the statement from the NATO Parliamentary Assembly stated.
As early as March this year, the Standing Committee of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly upgraded the status of the Assembly of Kosovo in the alliance, and today it was finally voted on.
