SDP CONGRESS: Nikšić to serve only a few more years

(Patria) - At today's Congress of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) of Bosnia and Herzegovina, a decision was made that elections for the new party president will be held in March 2027. Until then, the party will be led by its long-time leader Nermin Nikšić.

Nikšić himself announced this outcome ahead of the Congress, stating that, in accordance with the party's statute, he cannot be a candidate in the upcoming elections, nor does he intend to be.

"I believe the initiative will be for the president to be elected after the 2026 elections. The delegates will decide on that. If there is significant support for me to stay until then, everything I have done in political life I have done for the SDP, and I can only be grateful," said Nikšić, emphasizing that he does not wish to participate in any potential divisions within the party.

At the Congress, which is being held today, more than 700 delegates are electing members of the SDP's bodies.
