Commander of SAJ dismissed at Vučić's request for refusing to intervene against protesting citizens

(Patria) - Spasoje Vulević, police colonel and long-time commander of the Special Anti-Terrorist Unit (SAJ) of Serbia, was retired over the weekend by decision of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Serbia, Radar has learned from reliable sources.

This decision, which will become effective as early as Monday, comes after numerous attacks on the SAJ commander in government-controlled media, as well as at the personal insistence of Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, who publicly complained about Vulević on several occasions.

According to reliable information, the SAJ commander refused requests on several occasions for his unit to intervene against protesting citizens.

In parallel with the dismissal, or rather the retirement, of Vulević, the security of the US Embassy, which has been handled by SAJ for almost two decades, is gradually being completely taken over by the Protection Unit (JZO), commanded by Marko Kričak.

Colonel Vulević's career in the Ministry of Internal Affairs spans over three decades, during which he became the first police officer to graduate from the prestigious FBI academy in 2006, and the unit he led became synonymous with professionalism, without affairs or scandals.

Informed sources of Radar assess this dismissal as revenge against Colonel Vulević, whose unit has long been considered the most capable in the Serbian Ministry of Internal Affairs, and which has so far refused to be at the disposal of the authorities at every whim and to act illegally against citizens in the manner of a praetorian guard.
