Israeli Foreign Minister thanks Croatia for not recognizing Palestine

(Patria) - Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar yesterday thanked Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković, colleague Gordan Grlić Radman, and Speaker of the Croatian Parliament Gordan Jandroković because the Parliament rejected the Government's request to recognize the Palestinian state.

(Patria) - The Croatian Parliament rejected the proposal by Možemo! to prepare the ground for the recognition of Palestine. Out of 121 MPs, 44 were "for", 73 "against", and 4 abstained. At the same time, 56 MPs sent a letter to Prime Minister Andrej Plenković tr

"I want to convey my gratitude to Prime Minister Plenković, Foreign Minister Grlić Radman, and Speaker of Parliament Jandroković for the successful rejection of the vote on recognizing the Palestinian state," Saar wrote on platform X.

The Možemo! club requested that the Parliament oblige the Government to prepare a Decision on the Recognition of the State of Palestine within 15 days.

It also requested that the Government be obliged to suspend all existing permits for arms exports to Israel used in the Gaza Strip within 15 days, and to suspend the issuance of new permits for arms exports to Israel, as well as permits for the transfer of weapons to that country through Croatia, but the requests were rejected by a majority of votes.

Saar added that he is grateful to Croatia for not rewarding the Palestinian militant organization Hamas for the massacre committed on October 7, 2023.

Saar visited Zagreb earlier this month, where at a press conference with Grlić Radman, he praised the Croatian Government's stance on their war in Gaza, placing Zagreb in the same group of countries as Germany and Italy that have not "succumbed to Hamas propaganda" and were not swayed by the French initiative to recognize the Palestinian state.

Recognizing the Palestinian state, Saar emphasized at the time, would not only threaten Israeli existence but would also harm regional stability and would be a reward for Hamas for its attacks and an incentive to continue.

Croatian President Zoran Milanović said a few days ago in New York that Croatia should recognize the Palestinian state, emphasizing that it is not a reward for the Palestinians, but their right.
