(Patria) - The Croatian Parliament rejected the proposal by Možemo! to prepare the ground for the recognition of Palestine. Of the 121 MPs, 44 were "for", 73 "against", and 4 abstained.
At the same time, 56 MPs sent a letter to Prime Minister Andrej Plenković demanding that Croatia recognize Palestine as soon as possible and halt arms exports to Israel, warning of the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza and the importance of a two-state solution.
The letter was signed by MPs from SDP, Možemo!, IDS, SDSS, as well as several independent MPs and representatives of smaller parties. The debate took place in a tense atmosphere – some MPs warned about Hamas, while the opposition stated that recognizing Palestine means advocating for an end to the bloodshed.
