Thousands of students in Novi Sad will block bridges due to the death of 15 people in the canopy collapse at the Railway Station

(Patria) - Students from Belgrade faculties on blockade who have been walking from Belgrade since Thursday morning arrived in Novi Sad around 7 PM on Friday. They came to support their Novi Sad colleagues in blocking all three bridges in that city on Saturday, marking three months since the tragedy at the Railway Station in Novi Sad and the death of 15 people.

In front of the Railway Station in Novi Sad last night, 15 minutes of silence was held, and thousands of people paid tribute to those killed in the collapse of the canopy at the renovated Railway Station. For this accident, under public pressure, an indictment was filed on December 30, 2024, against several individuals, including former Minister of Transport Goran Vesić.

The wave of student protests, demanding accountability for the canopy collapse on November 1 in Novi Sad, which also left two people seriously injured, has been steadily spreading for over two months.

Students of the Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Novi Sad announced on social media that on Saturday they will broadcast a 24-hour program online during the blockades of three Novi Sad bridges.

"If you are still unable to attend in person, we would like to inform you that, in cooperation with other university students, we have programmed a website where we will broadcast a twenty-four-hour program live," the Novi Sad students said.

This will, as stated, "be the first continuous broadcast of the protest led exclusively by students."

The students have been joined in the protests by a large number of citizens, professors, and other institutions, which has caused a serious political upheaval in Serbia.
