(Patria) - An extraordinary session of the Novi Sad City Assembly, discussing the dismissal of Mayor Milan Đurić due to the unprecedented tragedy at the train station, began today at 10 AM.
Several incidents occurred shortly after the session began, and at one point, citizens gathered in front of the City Assembly and tried to enter, writes Nova.rs.
Citizens clashed with police while trying to enter the City Hall.
As Radivoje Jovović told N1, the citizens want to enter the city assembly and liberate it, since Đurić will not resign.
Mayor Milan Đurić told the councilors in his address:
"We are close to the beginning of the vote of confidence in the mayor, deputy mayor, and City Council; you requested an extraordinary assembly, and you got it. You haven't prepared much, even the proposer has a little less than four minutes for your proposal, but that's fine. I think we prepared excellently, and you didn't expect that," he said and then added:
"Your sole intention is to forcibly enter and then take power by force and coercion. That is the only way you are interested in coming to power, not through elections."
The Kreni-promeni movement published a video on X showing the clash between the police and citizens trying to enter the building. As could be seen in the live broadcast, the Assembly session is still ongoing.
In the clash with the police, who then escorted him into the City Hall building and took him upstairs, one young man suffered a cut above his eye.
