(Patria) - Goražde has always boasted top handball players. In 1956, physical education teacher Fikret Pašić brought the first handball to Goražde and began teaching children about the new sport at the school where he worked, and since then, numerous famous names have emerged.

The golden generation: Koso, Jovičić, Savčić, Nerić, Rastoder, the Hurić brothers, brought fame to the club and the city on the Drina. The junior team of "Radnički" became champions of Yugoslavia in 1974, which is the greatest achievement of the Goražde handball school.

Players who emerged from the Goražde handball school and wore the jersey of the Yugoslav national team include: Enver Koso, Predrag Timko, Goran Nerić, Borko Jovičić, Milanko Savčić, and Senjanin Maglajlija. Many players have worn the jersey of the BiH national team, such as Senjanin Maglajlija (captain), Nenad Radović, Edin Kadić, Mladen Čačić, Admir Kešetović, and national team coach Kasim Kamenica.

Due to its long tradition, it is not surprising that Goražde has been hosting a veterans' tournament in recent years, scheduled for (July 27th), led this year by Nazif Homoraš, Adnan Mihić, and Admir Sjerčić Rera.

The veterans of the Goražde Men's Handball Club are the organizers of the attractive, sixth annual veterans' handball tournament. More than a hundred former handball players from Slovenia, Croatia, Macedonia, Serbia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina are expected to attend the tournament.

- Goražde will traditionally be a good host to numerous guests, and the two-day event will begin with the Drina Regatta on Friday (July 26th), while the competitive part is planned for Saturday. The organizing committee has completed preparations for this unique sports handball attraction in this part of Europe.

The beach at the popular Goražde bathing area, Žanj, has been renovated, and in addition to the sand court, stands, showers, and other facilities will be set up. We wanted to offer something new and different, and in cooperation with the city and cantonal authorities, we decided on Goražde's symbol, the city bathing area "Žanj", which is certainly a unique attraction in this part of Europe.

It is planned for handball to be played in the heart of the Drina River, which will be very attractive, and we want to promote the beauty of our river and this area in this way. This is our contribution to breaking out of the routine - say the Veterans of MRK Goražde.
