(Patria) - The German subsidiary of the automotive concern Ford is introducing reduced working hours due to "drastically reduced" demand for its electric car models, German media report.
- Ford has applied to the Federal Employment Agency for the introduction of reduced working hours due to a drastic drop in demand for electric cars - said a spokesperson for the Ford concern to the newspaper Koelner Stadt Anzeiger.
The concern stated that demand for Ford's electric models has dropped drastically, especially in Germany, which is why, as it was said, it is necessary to reduce production volume.
At Ford's plants in Cologne, work would be carried out only every other week until the Christmas holidays. These plants produce the electric versions of the Explorer and Capri models.
After Volkswagen, which announced the closure of plants in Germany and the layoff of thousands of employees several weeks ago, Ford is the second German automotive concern to announce a reduction in production volume.
In Germany, after the abolition of subsidies for the purchase of electric cars at the end of last year, demand for this type of car has dropped drastically.
Experts believe that the renewed discussions about postponing the ban on cars with internal combustion engines further contribute to consumer uncertainty and contribute to the reduction in demand for electric cars.
