(Patria) - Financial Times (FT) writes that Serbia has exported ammunition worth 800 million euros to Ukraine via third countries since the start of the Russian invasion.
FT writes that Serbia has quietly increased ammunition sales to the West, ultimately contributing to Ukraine's defensive capabilities, even though Serbia is one of two European countries that have not supported Western sanctions against Putin and Russia.
Estimates cited by FT indicate that since the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022, Serbian ammunition exports that reached Ukraine via third parties amounted to around 800 million euros, which President Aleksandar Vučić largely confirmed.
He presented the situation as a business opportunity, insisting that he would not take sides in the war.
"This is part of our economic recovery and it is important for us. Yes, we export our ammunition. We cannot export to Ukraine or Russia... but we had many contracts with Americans, Spaniards, Czechs and others. What they ultimately do with it is their choice.
Even if I knew where the ammunition goes, it is not my job. My job is to ensure we handle our ammunition legally, that we sell it...
I have to take care of my people, and that is it. That is all I can say. We have friends in Kyiv and Moscow. They are our Slavic brothers," said Vučić.
When asked by journalists whether the figure of 800 million euros is accurate, Vučić said it refers to "maybe a period of two or three years," reports Index.hr.
