(Patria) - European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos has cancelled her visit to Kosovo due to recent political developments in the country.
"During a phone call with Prime Minister Albin Kurti, Commissioner Kos told him that she would postpone her planned trip to Kosovo due to recent political developments," the European Commission (EC) press service announced.
The EC added that Kos intends to travel to the capital, Pristina, "as soon as possible".
European officials announced this visit last week. Unofficially, the plan was for Kos to stay in Kosovo on March 12. It would have been her first visit to Kosovo in her capacity as Commissioner for Enlargement.
Kosovo is the only country belonging to her portfolio that Kos has not yet visited, although she has headed the enlargement cabinet in the European Commission since December 2024.
During 2025, her justification was that there was no interlocutor due to the institutional crisis that marked the entire previous year in Kosovo.
Immediately after the elections held on December 28, there were announcements that Kos would visit Kosovo as soon as institutions were formed in the country.
However, the political crisis caused by the failure to elect a head of state last week is the reason why she decided to postpone her planned trip.
