(Patria) - The European Parliament has adopted a report sharply criticizing the authorities in Serbia, particularly President Aleksandar Vučić, due to the deteriorating state of democracy, rule of law, and foreign policy not aligned with the EU. The report, prepared by the rapporteur for Serbia, Tonino Picula, expresses concern over attacks on demonstrators, media control, selective justice, and Serbia's attempts to maintain close ties with Russia.
Particular focus was placed on the tragedy at the railway station in Novi Sad, where 16 people died. Members of the European Parliament are calling for a transparent investigation and emphasize that the collapse of the canopy is a symbol of wider corruption and institutional inefficiency in Serbia. Support was also given to students from Serbia who are protesting and traveling to Brussels to present demands for change.
In Brussels, the conviction is growing that Vučić is no longer a reliable partner. As Picula stated, months of protests and Vučić's multi-pronged foreign policy game have led to a change in perception, not only in the EU but also in the US.
