(Patria) - Serbia's representative to the UN Marko Đurić said in his address to the UN Security Council that all victims of the conflict in BiH, regardless of nationality and religion, deserve equal justice, treatment, remembrance and respect from the international community.
"My state strives to preserve the Dayton Peace Agreement, peace in the Balkans, but also the memory of all victims. My state persistently supports the territorial integrity, as well as the integrity and competencies of the entities RS and FBiH. When speaking about the bitterness felt in this hall, I must bow to all victims of the war in BiH," Đurić emphasized.
Đurić urged the authors of the draft resolution on Srebrenica to reconsider their initiative, which causes divisions.
- The fact is that the draft resolution was presented without consensus within BiH. As Željka Cvijanović said, the draft represents a violation of the constitutional order, which is why, instead of leading to reconciliation, it led to an emergency session of the UN Security Council, and that should be enough to withdraw the proposed text - said Đurić.
He said that before the bloody dissolution of the war, wounds from World War II were being reopened.
"Serbia condemns the massacre in Srebrenica, terrible and what stands out in it by its magnitude and cruelty. We must keep in mind that equal justice for all victims in BiH is the path to reconciliation and peace. Contrary to everything we were told, what some of the co-sponsors said, the real reason for the proposed resolution was revealed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of BiH Elmedin Konaković, who a few days ago publicly said: 'Such Serbia deserves nothing other than to be hated and does not deserve cooperation.' He continued with the claim in an offensive manner that his regime intends to open legal proceedings against my state and there is no reconciliation or good neighborly relations in the plan," Đurić stated.
He added that the pitfalls of previous generations must be avoided and a new resolution proposed that will have consensus in BiH and the region.
Đurić demanded that a decision be made immediately on the withdrawal of the resolution on Srebrenica.
