(Patria) - The public once again had the opportunity to see in which direction the official policy of the Government of Montenegro is heading, through the statement of Vice President Dragoslav Šćekić, who said that Montenegro should not support the Resolution on the genocide in Srebrenica at the UN, the DPS announced yesterday.
"Since Prime Minister Spajić has still not stated a precise position on this issue, it is clear that this statement can be interpreted as the official position of the current Government of Montenegro," the DPS believes.
They call on Prime Minister Spajić to finally take a stand regarding the scandalous statement of Deputy Prime Minister Šćekić, and to tell them whether he also believes that "topics that are behind us" should not be opened.
They also ask him whether he believes "that Montenegro should have good relations with everyone in the region," and whether he, like his deputy, is "surprised that the topic of Srebrenica is being opened at the UN or anywhere else."
"It is high time you told us whether the silence on Srebrenica is a lack of political courage to state your position, or whether behind it lies the fear that it might be interpreted as a refusal to obey your financiers and political superiors," the DPS stated.
They clearly tell Spajić and Šćekić - genocide did occur in Srebrenica.
"This was stated by the Hague Court and the International Court of Justice, which ruled that the army and police of the RS were the perpetrators of genocide.
However, despite all the facts and evidence, we hear scandalous statements in the public space every day, for years.
Until recently, they came from officials of other countries; today they come from officials of our own country," the DPS announced.
Data from the Hague International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals indicate that there were about 8,000 victims in Srebrenica, while 30,000 women and children were forcibly displaced.
"In the court proceedings for Srebrenica, it was established that the victims were civilians or prisoners of war.
Evidence shows that most victims were not killed in combat but during mass executions, and that blindfolds and material for tying hands were found in mass graves.
The verdicts of the Hague and domestic courts found individuals guilty of genocide, not collectives, states or entities," the DPS concluded.
