(Patria) - Serbian Foreign Minister Ivica Dačić announced that Serbia will send a protest to Croatia because Croatian police did not allow the Minister for Diaspora to visit the former camp in Jasenovac.
Minister Đorđe Milićević was visiting Serbs in the vicinity of Novska and then headed towards the memorial park in Jasenovac to pay tribute to Serbs killed in the Ustaše camp during World War II, his office announced.
He was stopped at the entrance to the complex by Croatian police officers who surrounded the minister's vehicle with three cars, the statement claims. Dačić assessed this as a "shameful and scandalous move by the Croatian authorities".
"This is their attitude towards the genocide of the Serbian people in Jasenovac and the entire fascist Independent State of Croatia," Dačić said in a statement and announced that his ministry will send a protest to Croatia.
Milićević is the third Serbian official who could not visit the monument in Jasenovac, after President Aleksandar Vučić in 2022 and former Minister of Defence Aleksandar Vulin in 2018.
