(Patria) - Taking into account that the Conference League match against Aktobe is scheduled for July 11, FK Sarajevo planned to feature the "Srebrenica Flower" symbol on its jerseys in memory of the victims of the Srebrenica genocide.
In accordance with UEFA regulations, the jersey design was approved by the Football Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which officially submitted such a jersey to UEFA. In addition, on June 25, FK Sarajevo sent a special request to UEFA asking for permission to use this jersey. Three days before the match, an official response was received from UEFA, stating that we do not have approval to add this symbol to the jersey, and that players can use black armbands. Since the jerseys were already prepared at that time, the club informed UEFA, which instructed that the printed symbol be "covered up".
FK Sarajevo believes that the decision to play the match with this emblem on the jersey is in line with the broader goals of promoting human rights and respect for the victims of crimes. The Srebrenica Flower embodies the principles of humanity, respect, and collective remembrance of the victims of genocide. Allowing our team to wear this emblem would be a gesture of solidarity with the victims of genocide and a message that such tragedies are never forgotten, nor repeated.
FK Sarajevo remains faithful to the memory of the victims of the Srebrenica genocide. Never forget Srebrenica.
