Montenegrin transporters banned from blocking roads and border crossings

(Patria) - The Police Directorate of Montenegro has banned the announced protests of the Transporters Association "because multi-day blockades of roads and border crossings would seriously endanger citizens' rights and the functioning of the state".

The Police Directorate clarifies that the announced thirty-day blockade would seriously endanger the rights and freedoms of citizens, as well as the health of people in Montenegro.

The police believe that the goal of any further holding of protests in this manner would further hinder, burden, and endanger citizens' rights, and that as such, it would no longer have the character of a peaceful public gathering.

The representatives of the organizers have also been informed of this decision by the Police Directorate, who were specifically pointed out the obligation to respect the adopted decisions.

The Transporters Association of Montenegro submitted applications for holding public gatherings in several security departments over the past three days.

As stated in the applications, the protests would be organized in the form of blockades of roads and border crossings, thereby blocking the traffic of freight vehicles, both at the entrance and exit of Montenegro, as well as in transit, in the period from March 23 to April 23, or until the demands are met, daily for 24 hours.

The reason for organizing the protests is the unresolved problems arising from the application of EU regulations that restrict the stay of transporters in the Schengen zone and EU countries.
