Montenegro to temporarily close another negotiating chapter next week

(Patria) - Ambassadors of the European Union member states have confirmed the EU's position on one chapter in the accession negotiations with Montenegro.

This confirms the holding of an intergovernmental conference at which this negotiating chapter will be temporarily closed, it was confirmed in the EU Council.

This concerns Chapter 21 - Trans-European transport networks, which will be temporarily closed at the conference planned for March 17 in Brussels.

Montenegro will thus have 14 temporarily closed chapters out of a total of 33, which are covered by the negotiations for membership in the European Union.

Montenegro is, for now, considered the most likely future member of the EU.

State authorities aim to complete accession negotiations by the end of this year to pave the way for the signing and ratification of the accession agreement. This is a process that, according to statistics, takes between one and three years.

The ambition of the Montenegrin authorities is for the country to become a full member of the EU by the end of 2028.

To successfully conclude negotiations, all negotiating chapters must be closed. In order to achieve the goal of the Podgorica authorities, the entire process needs to be completed in the next nine months.
