Čović: We don't need a reshuffle of power if we don't know precisely what we will do and if there is no clear majority

(Patria) - The Presidency of HDZ BiH held a session in Mostar today to discuss key political issues.

Dragan Čović, president of HDZ, speaking about the coalition and challenges after yesterday's sessions of the House of Peoples of the BiH Parliamentary Assembly.

“We had an urgent session of the House of Peoples. We adopted two laws, they are behind us. That was a very clear goal. In the package we agreed upon, we made it clear that for us as partners, the adoption of the Law on the Court and the Law on the HJPC, as well as the adoption of the budget, are important. I am convinced that this is the only path we have ahead of us, but the period is short. Our task is to finish this by the end of February,” said Čović, noting that all analyses of what has been done are from March.

He added that the emphasis had to be on those two laws, not something else, although he understands all the initiatives that are coming.

“We want to ensure full equality of the Croatian people. We are discussing this with all partners, as well as peace and stability. We must also ensure the European path. We sometimes have to do things in a way that some people don't like, but we must fulfill our tasks,” added Čović.

He said it is difficult to distinguish who is in power and who is in opposition. He called on everyone to stop outsmarting each other, especially if it concerns the European path.

- Yesterday we took one step. When you formed the partnership, there was a narrow majority, in which representatives of the international community also participated. We don't need a reshuffle of power if we don't know precisely what we will do and if there is no clear majority.

I hope there will be as little communication as possible in the way that everyone dismisses everyone else. That was attempted yesterday. If there is a second and third initiative for dismissal, we will not support it, we are protecting the partner, this can only freeze the functioning of the government. Let someone say what interest this has for the citizens, other than for political parties,” added Čović.
