Kosovo's Central Election Commission did not certify Srpska Lista for October local elections

(Patria) - Kosovo's Central Election Commission (CEC) did not certify Srpska Lista for the October local elections.

Members of the Self-Determination Movement in the CEC opposed the certification of the largest party of Kosovo Serbs for the elections scheduled for October 12.

The recommendation for the certification of Srpska Lista received only two votes "for" at today's CEC session, while there were also two votes against, with seven abstentions.

Srpska Lista has the right to appeal this decision. A similar situation occurred before the parliamentary elections in February, when Srpska Lista was certified after appeals to higher instances against the CEC's decision not to certify it.

Speaking at the CEC session before the vote, Self-Determination Movement member of the Commission Sami Kurteshi opposed the certification of Srpska Lista.

He pointed out that "more than 90 percent of the people on Srpska Lista's candidate lists are members of parallel Serbian institutions in Kosovo".

He challenged the candidacy of Saša Milošević from Srpska Lista for the mayor of Novo Brdo, stating that he was appointed by the Serbian Government as the president of the Municipality of Gnjilane, which functions as a parallel Serbian structure.

- He plays a double role. He works in the institutions of a state that has aggressive, even military intentions towards the Republic of Kosovo - said Kurteshi.

Milošević was appointed by the Serbian Government on February 27, 2020, as the "president of the Provisional Authority of the Municipality of Gnjilane".

On August 7, the Serbian Government made more than 20 personnel decisions on the appointment and dismissal of officials of institutions, including several who headed provisional authorities for municipalities in Kosovo.

Among those dismissed were Saša Milošević, Zoran Todić from Leposavić, Novak Živić in charge of the municipality of Priština, Goran Dančetović, president of the municipality of Obilić, Božidar Dejanović from Vitina...

Local elections in Kosovo will be held on October 12.
