Čedomir Stojković released to defend himself from freedom: Vučić is taking revenge on me for the Sarajevo safari lawsuit

(Patria) - Lawyer Čedomir Stojković announced last night on his Facebook account that he has been released to defend himself from freedom, after being arrested on Monday for allegedly calling for the overthrow of the highest state authorities and their representatives on social media.

Stojković stated that he was released to defend himself from freedom last night, half an hour after midnight, and that his phone was confiscated and he was banned from using the social network X.

He stated that he was formally arrested because in 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025 he wrote on the social network X about the Euromaidan in Ukraine, claiming that it was also needed in Serbia, but that the real reason is the criminal complaint he filed against the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, in which he accuses him of being a participant in the so-called "Sarajevo Safari".

"In reality, they arrested me because of my criminal complaint against Aleksandar Vučić regarding his connection to the Sarajevo Sniper Safari (mentioned in the criminal complaint); preventing the development of my podcast 'Putokaz sa Čedomirom' is, for some unknown reason, a danger for them (because there is no other reason for them to ban my access to the YouTube channel, I do nothing else there except upload my podcast)", Stojković stated.

Along with his message on Facebook, he also published the entire criminal complaint that the Higher Public Prosecutor's Office filed against him.

Stojković also explained that in the record of his hearing, he stated, among other things, that while in the Ministry of Interior building, being escorted from the office where he was served the detention order to the toilet located 20 meters away, he heard subdued comments from neighboring offices that he was arrested because Aleksandar Vučić is taking revenge on him for filing a criminal complaint regarding the so-called "Sarajevo Safari".

"That this is true was later shown at the Higher Public Prosecutor's Office in Belgrade, when the criminal complaint was served to me. The criminal complaint against me covers the period from 2022 and cites some of my posts from that time, in which I call for a Euromaidan in Serbia (democratic protests for turning Serbia towards the EU), and ends with the year 2025 and my posts about Aleksandar Vučić's participation in the Sarajevo Sniper Safari", Stojković stated.

"Messages from three years ago cannot be a reason for arrest"

He emphasized that his messages from 2022 have been in the same place for three years, and therefore assesses that it is clear they were not the reason for his arrest, because, as he stated, "posts from three years ago cannot call for a change in the constitutional order today".

Stojković is, in fact, convinced that what the criminal complaint concludes with, i.e., his claims about Aleksandar Vučić's role in the "Sarajevo Safari", is the real reason for the arrest.

"Since my statements about his role in this were reported by numerous world media outlets, that was the reason for my arrest. Especially in a situation where media interest in his role in this is still growing", Stojković stated, assessing that his detention was not ordered due to the "courage of the court".

"Nevertheless, it is difficult to resist the regime in Serbia, so congratulations to the court. However, the prosecution will appeal, we'll see", Stojković expects.

Let us recall, Stojković was arrested yesterday because, according to a statement from the Higher Public Prosecutor's Office in Belgrade, in the period from 2022 to 2025, as stated, in various posts on social media, he called for the overthrow of the highest state authorities and their representatives. The HPPO, among other things, assessed the sharing of the post "Students in Blockade" about a call for a protest in Pazar "Either them or us" as a call for a violent change of government.

Yesterday's arrest of lawyer Čedomir Stojković, on charges of violently overthrowing the constitutional order, is the latest example of repression by Vučić's regime against all those who want to freely express political views in Serbia, the LSV Vojvođani announced.

"While convicted criminals and thugs terrorize the citizens of Serbia, attack journalists, beat activists across the country, and the police turn a blind eye and do not react, in just a few days, Zrenjanin journalist Aleksandar Dikić and lawyer Stojković were arrested. We demand the immediate suspension of the proceedings against Stojković and Dikić and an end to the persecution of citizens who think differently. Serbia will not become Putin's Russia and Lukashenko's Belarus, no matter how much Vučić dreams and wishes for it", the statement from that party said.
