(Patria) - British Minister for European Affairs Nus Ghani stated yesterday in Belgrade that the Srebrenica genocide was a legally based, not a political decision.
In a conversation with journalists in Serbia, Ghani reminded that the Srebrenica genocide was established by the International Criminal Tribunal based on evidence.
- Establishing genocide is an incredibly high bar to reach. It is a legally based, not a political decision.
This determination is not a reflection of Serbian society or the Serbian people; it is about committed crimes and intent - stated the British minister.
Asked how she commented on the stance of the Serbian authorities regarding the Resolution on the Genocide in Srebrenica, Ghani said that the authorities in Serbia should think about how to move forward, and that accepting what happened is important on the path to reconciliation.
- The committed crimes must be accepted; that is the only way to move forward towards reconciliation - Ghani conveyed.
Speaking about the influence of China and Russia on Serbia, the British minister emphasized that Russian President Vladimir Putin is a totalitarian imperialist and that he is trying to destabilize Europe.
- We must do everything we can to ensure that Ukraine receives the necessary support to defend itself against Putin. Putin is trying to destabilize Europe; Ukraine is protecting all of us because it defends liberal democracies, sovereignty, and the rule of law - Ghani points out.
During a one-day visit to Belgrade, the British minister met with the Minister for European Integration of Serbia, Tanja Miščević, and signed a Memorandum on Customs at the Ministry of Finance of Serbia.
