Fights against fires in Tučepi and Podgora still ongoing, tourists evacuated

(Patria) - The fight against the fire in Tučepi and Podgora lasted all night. The fire near Tučepi flared up yesterday and threatened houses in Podgora, which were nevertheless saved thanks to firefighters.

Last night, the fire approached within 20 meters of houses, and during the evening, tourists staying in Podgora Selo were evacuated.

Due to the fire, the state road DC512 from Makarska to the Stupica tunnel, in the place Gornji Tučepi, has been closed, reported the Croatian Automobile Club (HAK).

The mayor of the municipality of Podgora, Petra Radić, stated that 30-40 people were evacuated and accommodated in the center.

"A large part of the hamlet has been burned, but all houses have been defended," said Radić, adding that it is somewhat bizarre that most tourists are fleeing houses and apartments because they lack internet connection, not due to fear of fire.

Firefighters from Zagreb, Krapinsko-zagorska, and Sisačko-moslavačka counties are arriving at the fire sites in Dalmatia, and members of the Intervention Fire Brigade of Dubrovnik have also set off to help their colleagues in the Split-Dalmatia county. However, there is a lack of equipment, tankers, and fatigue is already catching up with the firefighters.

The good news is that there are no injured firefighters.
