No incidents at the welcome of Croatian handball players in Zagreb: Banner "United against fascism" greeted the crowd on a building facade

(Patria) - No incidents were recorded before, during, or after the welcome of the Croatian national handball team at Ban Jelačić Square, nor was there any police intervention, Hina learns from the Zagreb Police Administration (PUZ).

Tens of thousands of fans welcomed the handball team tonight at the main Zagreb square, which won bronze at the European Championship in Denmark, Norway, and Sweden.

At the welcome of the handball players, organized by the Croatian Government in cooperation with the Croatian Handball Federation (HRS) bypassing the City of Zagreb, Zaprešić Boys, Hrvatske ruže, and Marko Perković Thompson performed, at the request of HRS.

During Thompson's performance, a large banner with the inscription "United against fascism" was unfurled on one of the buildings on Ban Jelačić Square, while at the same time, flags with the first white field and scarves with the inscription "Za dom spremni" could be seen in the audience.

Croatian President Zoran Milanović today condemned the Government's decision to organize the welcome of the handball players in Zagreb at the Square, bypassing the city authorities' decision, as an unconstitutional, illegal, and piratical act, stating that by doing so, the Government is seizing the state and causing divisions in society.

Ahead of the welcome of the bronze handball players, left-wing opposition MPs stated that Prime Minister Andrej Plenković had carried out a constitutional coup and instrumentalized athletes, as well as the police.

Prime Minister and HDZ leader Andrej Plenković rejected the claims of alleged illegal and unconstitutional actions by the Government regarding the decision to take over the organization of the welcome of the handball players in Zagreb, assessing the left-wing opposition's policy as transparent, unfounded, and a strategy of chaos.
