Belgrade residents left without public transport, Ministry of Interior ordered GSP to pull all vehicles into garages

(Patria) - The Ministry of Interior of Serbia ordered this morning a complete halt to public transport in Belgrade, confirmed for N1 Serbia Ivan Banković from the GSP Center union.

At 9:05 AM, an order from the MUP arrived that all vehicles of the City Transport Company (GSP) Belgrade, allegedly for security reasons, be pulled into garages, Banković told the N1 portal.

“All GSP vehicles, trolleybuses and trams were replaced by buses, they regularly went out on all lines operated by GSP. At 9:05 AM, an order from the MUP arrived to pull the vehicles into the garage,” said Banković, specifying that currently (around 10:45 AM) there are slightly fewer than 100 GSP vehicles on the streets, which will gradually be pulled into garages as they finish their runs.

He reminded that private transport operators decided this morning on their own not to go out on the streets, because they feared for the safety of their vehicles.

“With this, we have shown that GSP is an institution of this city. Private transport operators decided not to transport Belgrade residents, and they hold more than 100 bus lines,” said Banković, emphasizing that, because of this, since this morning all Palilula settlements on route 100, all Grocka settlements on route 300, all Voždovac settlements on route 400, all Čukarica settlements on route 500, all Surčin settlements on route 600, and all Zemun settlements on route 700 have been without transport.

He stressed that GSP is not pulling its vehicles of its own will, but by order of the Ministry of Interior of Serbia, but specified that, despite everything, workers of the city transport company will remain at their workplaces today, even though their vehicles are not operating.

“At the GSP headquarters in Dorćol, there are currently more than 100 members of the MUP. I saw them personally, I can confirm that. From the insignia, I see that the police are from Novi Sad, whether there are any from other cities, I don’t know,” said Banković.
