Belgrade: Body of Girl Found Whom Mother Threw into the Sava River in Zagreb

(Patria) - Belgrade Interpol has informed the Croatian Ministry of the Interior that they have found the body of a child in the Sava near Belgrade, which a 34-year-old mother dropped into the Sava near the Jankomir Bridge in Zagreb in January this year, Zagreb police reported.

The police stated that Belgrade Interpol found an unidentified child's body in March this year, and through international cooperation and DNA analysis, a match was established with the DNA of the child the mother dropped into the Sava in Zagreb on January 15.

According to media reports, the child's body was found on one of Belgrade's river barges. The media added that police officers, with the help of firefighters, pulled the body out and transported it for an autopsy to the Belgrade Institute of Forensic Medicine.

The missing child was searched for on several occasions along the entire course of the Sava River in Zagreb and Zagreb County. Rescue teams, including police, firefighters, and the Croatian Mountain Rescue Service (HGSS), searched the river using boats, drones, and underwater scanners.

Zagreb police reported the day after the disappearance that the 34-year-old mother had informed them she entered the Sava with the child near the Jankomir Bridge.

The mother was arrested and is suspected of aggravated murder of a close person, for which a long prison sentence is prescribed.

The Croatian Institute for Social Work earlier confirmed to Hina that the family of the 34-year-old woman was not under the treatment of the competent regional office, nor were any family-legal protection measures taken.
