(Patria) - Protesters who blocked the railway at the Novi Beograd train station during protests against the announcement of lithium mining withdrew from the tracks this morning after the police arrived.
This morning, about fifty protesters with tents and banners were on the railway at the Novi Beograd train station, and they withdrew after a police brigade was sent to the scene, RTS reported.
The Minister of Internal Affairs of Serbia, Ivica Dačić, stated that the police intervention enabled the unimpeded flow of railway traffic and announced criminal charges against all perpetrators of criminal acts of disrupting international public transport and endangering the safety of citizens.
Participants in the protest against the announcement of lithium mining and the company "Rio Tinto" blocked two train stations in the capital last night, and smaller groups of people remained at the "Prokop" and "Novi Beograd" stations.
The organizers of the protest are demanding the adoption of a law on the permanent ban of lithium and boron mining in Serbia and announce that the blockades will last until this demand is met.
The protest began on Terazije yesterday at 7:00 PM, and after its conclusion, participants headed towards the Gazela bridge, from where, divided into two groups, they went to the Novi Beograd and Prokop train stations, where they blocked traffic.
