Bećirović defends Konaković: He was obliged to warn Serbian officials about BiH Constitutional Court decisions

(Patria) - The office of BiH Presidency member Denis Bećirović issued a statement regarding the unfounded initiative by SNSD to dismiss the BiH Minister of Foreign Affairs Elmedin Konaković.

"The BiH Ministry of Foreign Affairs, nor any other institution of Bosnia and Herzegovina, does not need a harmonized stance from the BiH Presidency regarding the obligation to respect the Dayton Peace Agreement, the BiH Constitution, and the laws of Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is the duty of the BiH Minister of Foreign Affairs, as well as all other officials in our country, to respect the principles of constitutionality and legality.

Regarding the illegal celebration of January 9th as the so-called 'Day of Republika Srpska', the BiH Minister of Foreign Affairs Elmedin Konaković has not damaged the reputation of the institution he represents through his statements or actions. On the contrary, Minister Konaković reacted responsibly, pointing out that the celebration of this illegal holiday is unlawful.

The fundamental obligation of all authorities is to respect the Dayton Peace Agreement and the BiH Constitution, which also implies the full implementation of the final and binding decisions of the BiH Constitutional Court. Disregarding these decisions constitutes a criminal offense, according to the Criminal Code of BiH.

The BiH Minister of Foreign Affairs Elmedin Konaković was obliged to warn officials of the neighboring Republic of Serbia to respect the final and binding decisions of the BiH Constitutional Court. Interference in the internal affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the disregard for the Dayton Peace Agreement by Serbian officials constitute a violation of international law and the fundamental values on which the European Union is based.

No attempts at pressure by SNSD and their satellites will stop state officials of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the fight to protect the constitutional order of Bosnia and Herzegovina."
