Bečarević: How much will the FBiH Government earn from the decision on a minimum wage of 1,000 KM and what will happen to pensions?

(Patria) - The analysis of the FBiH Government's decision on a minimum wage of 1,000 KM for 2025 continues.

Almir Bečarević, president of KV SBiH, points out that the FBiH Government will earn approximately 800,000,000 KM from the increase in the minimum wage and the rise in obligations towards the state.

He calculated this based on data showing that 223,285 people have a salary lower than 1,000 KM. Thus, 800,000,000 KM is an estimate assuming everyone currently receives the minimum wage.

"This is the total cost for 2025. The Government's intention is clear; with this decision, they are appeasing workers, and then they will use this increase in total contributions for taxes and duties to increase pensions. Now the question arises what will happen in 2026 because the decision is temporary.

The minimum wage should be increased, but should everything be taken from employers and achieve two marketing goals, one towards workers and one towards employers? This decision temporarily increases the minimum wage, but a decision to increase pensions would be permanent, and the question will arise who will then dare to relieve the economy. The decision was made hastily, with the ultimate goal being pensioners, not workers. 2026 is an election year, and the FBiH Government is trying to stay in power with this decision, not to permanently solve the minimum wage issue with a drop in contributions," Bečarević points out.

He adds that the decision is pre-election without a clear goal of helping workers because it is temporary, and the pensioners will be the icing on the cake, and then a drama will unfold.

"This decision causes immeasurable damage to employers, and the help to workers is not a permanent category because everyone forgets that the decision is TEMPORARY," Bečarević emphasizes.
