Armin Hodžić: Croatia should recognize Palestine

(Patria) - In light of increasingly dramatic reports from the ground, where according to UN data in Gaza tens of thousands of Palestinians are surviving in conditions of hunger and without basic medicines, while at the same time the mass killing and genocide by Israel does not cease, we can no longer hide behind the word "neutrality", said Member of Parliament of the Republic of Croatia Armin Hodžić.

"As a Member of Parliament for Bosniaks in the Republic of Croatia, as a citizen of this country, and as a human being, I believe the time has come for Croatia to recognize the state of Palestine. Such an act would be morally justified, in accordance with the principles of international law, as well as with the values on which modern Europe is based", he added.

"Recognizing Palestine does not mean supporting extremism. On the contrary, it is a signal that only a two-state solution can bring a just and lasting peace. The same solution that many European institutions also support", Hodžić emphasized.

"Croatia has been alone in its history during its most difficult moments. That is why I believe that precisely we who know what it means to be exposed to injustice and the silence of the world have a special duty to be on the right side of history".

"I call for this proposal to be seriously considered, as an act of responsibility and as an indicator of conscientious policy guided by the fundamental principles of humanism", Hodžić concluded.
