Anušić's driver caused accident, ran red light with sirens on

(Patria) - The driver of Croatian Minister of Defense Ivan Anušić caused an accident yesterday with three lightly injured people in Zagreb's Ilica street when he ran a red light with the official car's sirens on.

According to the Zagreb police report, the 35-year-old was driving the official car down Ilica street with lights and sirens activated. The minister and his security detail were in the vehicle.

Upon reaching the intersection with Sveti Duh street and Selska cesta, he first stopped at the red light. Then, with signals activated, he entered the intersection while the red light for his direction was still on.

In the process, the front of the official vehicle collided with the side of a car with Zagreb license plates, driven by a 71-year-old man who was traveling north on Selska cesta.

In the traffic accident, the 71-year-old driver and his passengers, aged 47 and 73, sustained minor injuries. All injured individuals received medical assistance at the University Hospital Center Zagreb.

Anušić's driver has been charged with causing a traffic accident with injured persons because he did not stop at the red light at an intersection controlled by traffic signals, police said.
