Aleksandra Samardžić confirms excellent form with gold at European Open

(Patria) - The two-day prestigious judo competition, Sarajevo European Open, began today in the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The first day of competition was marked by our national team representative Aleksandra Samardžić, who won a gold medal in the up to 70 kilograms category. After excellently fought preliminary matches that led her to the final, in the duel for the most valuable medal, the BiH judoka defeated Serbia's representative Jovana Čarakarević.

In this way, Aleksandra confirmed that she is in excellent competitive form even after her debut at the Olympic Games.

Lana Bjelica brought another medal to our country. In the fight for bronze, in the over 78 kilograms category, she defeated her national team colleague Sara Marić.

Sofija Pajić also had an opportunity to win a bronze medal, but she was defeated in the fight for third place in the up to 78 kilograms category by Jovana Peković from Montenegro. For the Judo Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, this is another opportunity to show and confirm its status as one of the best technical organizers.

With this competition, our Federation will conclude the calendar year in which it has successfully organized several major competitions, and it is worth noting that our country hosted the European Judo Cup for Seniors, the European Judo Cup for Young Hopes, the European Veterans Championship, the European Kata Championship, and the Kodokan Kata Seminar this year.

The competition at the Sarajevo European Open 2020 continues tomorrow (October 27) starting at 11 AM with the preliminary matches.

On Sunday, judokas in the -48, -52, and -57 kilograms categories will compete, while judokas will compete in the -81, -90, -100, and +100 kilograms categories. The final block, just like today, will begin at 3 PM.
