Albania and Montenegro become associate members of the Three Seas Initiative

(Patria) - Montenegro and Albania became associate members of the international Three Seas group today, which brings together countries of the Baltic, Adriatic and Black Seas.

The Tenth Jubilee Summit of the Three Seas Initiative, jointly launched by Croatia and Poland in 2015, is being held in Warsaw.

The summit is attended by the presidents of Albania, Bajram Begaj, and Montenegro, Jakov Milatović, at the invitation of Polish President Andrzej Duda.

Milatović thanked for the admission to the Initiative.

- This gesture is not only a recognition of our shared values and aspirations, but also proof of the strength of regional unity and cooperation - said Milatović.

A statement from his cabinet said that Montenegro will change its status from associate to full member of the Three Seas Initiative when it joins the European Union.

The focus of the Initiative is strengthening the infrastructural, energy and digital connectivity of the region.

The Three Seas Initiative brings together 13 EU member states from Central and Eastern Europe, located between the Baltic, Black and Adriatic Seas.

It is supported by the most significant global actors, such as the European Union, the United States of America, Germany and Japan.

- This is a great diplomatic success for Montenegro. This initiative is important in the context of regional connectivity in the areas of energy, infrastructure and the digital economy, and is another step towards Montenegro's full membership in the EU - Milatović stated.

The Three Seas Initiative Investment Fund is a dedicated commercial fund focused on investments in critical infrastructure in the region.
