(Patria) - Information about Serbian supersonic missiles is not a reason for irresponsible statements, but for a "serious conversation" among the country's main political actors, said the Speaker of the Croatian Parliament Gordan Jandroković yesterday.
- Information that Serbia has supersonic missiles is not a reason for entertainment, irresponsible statements, cheap internal political battles, but for us to sit down seriously, conduct politics responsibly, and protect Croatia's interests - Jandroković told reporters.
Jandroković was responding to journalists' questions about the claims of Croatian President Zoran Milanović that it seems Defense Minister Ivan Anušić, who said he had known about Serbian missiles for several months, had kept this information from Prime Minister Andrej Plenković.
Jandroković points out that Serbia is a country that committed aggression against Croatia and that it now possesses "very serious weapons that are not for defense, but for attack".
- I would call on everyone involved in political life to get a little more serious, not to have such publicly pointless discussions about these topics, but to really sit down, either at the National Security Council and Defense Council or in some other form, and seriously discuss how to best protect the Croatian state and citizens - Jandroković said.
He warns that the situation in the neighborhood and the world is serious and that it is now very important to think about Croatia's security, which he nevertheless said is stable and peaceful for now.
- We no longer live in a peaceful world. Thousands of people are dying day by day. The international order is changing. Croatia is an island of peace and stability, and it is in our interest to preserve that.
We need to have more serious discussions, not to score cheap political points like that - Jandroković said.
Croatian Minister of the Interior Davor Božinović also stood up in Anušić's defense, saying that his colleague is doing "serious work".
- And these kinds of public polemics between those who should be cooperating are, I think, not good - stated Božinović, adding that he believes the National Security Council will be convened "when the conditions are met".
