Wizz Air closes base in Tuzla, suspends some flights

(Patria) - Wizz Air has confirmed it plans to adjust its network and optimize the market for its flights in Bosnia and Herzegovina, relocating its two aircraft based in Tuzla to other bases within the network in September this year. This is due to the changing economic environment, as well as operational challenges caused by weather conditions in the region, and to take advantage of growth opportunities by redistributing its capacity to other routes with higher demand, Wizz Air announced.<br><br>- Although several routes will be suspended, Wizz Air will continue flights from Tuzla to Basel Mulhouse, Dortmund, Frankfurt-Hahn and Memmingen.<br><br>Passengers affected by these changes will be notified via email and will have the option to choose between a 120 percent refund of the original ticket price in the form of airline credit, a 100 percent cash refund, or an alternative flight. All employees at the Tuzla base will be offered opportunities for reassignment to other Wizz Air bases - the statement said.<br><br>It is stated that Wizz Air remains committed to long-term growth in the Balkans, creating hundreds of jobs while stimulating the tourism and hospitality industry.<br><br>- In the past twelve months, Wizz Air has announced the deployment of new aircraft in Tirana, Skopje and Belgrade, and the launch of new routes to the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, Poland, Greece, Spain and many other countries.<br><br>The company's network continues to develop and grow, with 70 percent higher capacity in summer 2023 compared to pre-pandemic numbers and a record number of passengers in the previous financial year ending March 31, 2023, which increased by 89 percent to 51.1 million - it is stated.<br><br>Roland Tischner, Director of Management and Operations at Wizz Air Hungary, said:<br><br>- The challenging macroeconomic environment, as well as complicated weather conditions in the region, such as frequent fogs that significantly affect operational performance, have unfortunately prevented us from maintaining a large network of flights from Tuzla Airport and basing our aircraft there. We apologize to our passengers for the inconvenience this will cause. Our priority now is to ensure that all affected passengers are contacted directly with clear advice on their options and to take care of our colleagues and crew in Tuzla.<br><br>We are privileged to have a highly professional and dedicated team in Tuzla and we strive to ensure that all of them receive opportunities at other Wizz Air bases. Wizz Air continues to fly on nine routes from BiH airports in Sarajevo, Tuzla and Banja Luka.
