(Patria) - Milijarder Larry Connor planira odvesti podmornicu za dvije osobe do olupine Titanica.
Cilj mu je dokazati da je industrija ponovo sigurna, nakon što je petero ljudi poginulo u junu prošle godine kada je podmornica Titan, koju je izradio OceanGate, pretrpjela katastrofalnu imploziju tokom putovanja prema Titanicu.
- Želim pokazati ljudima širom svijeta da, iako je okean iznimno moćan, može biti prekrasan i ugodan te doista promijeniti život ako to učinite na pravi način - rekao je Connor, investitor u nekretnine iz Ohija, u razgovoru za The Wall Street Journal.
Udružio se s Patrickom Laheyjem, jednim od najiskusnijih svjetskih operatera podmornica te suosnivačem i izvršnim direktorom kompanije Triton Submarines, piše Sky News.
- Patrick je o tome razmišljao i pripremao dizajn više od decenije. Ali nismo imali materijale i tehnologiju. Nismo mogli izgraditi ovu podmornicu prije pet godina - pojasnio je Connor.
Njih dvojica trebali bi krenuti na putovanje u Triton 4000/2 Abyssal Exploreru vrijednom 20 miliona dolara.
Brojka 4000 odnosi se na dubinu do koje navodno može zaroniti u metrima, što je oko 200 metara dublje od dubine na kojoj se nalazi olupina Titanica.
Lahey je ispričao kako ga je nazvao samo nekoliko dana nakon smrtonosne implozije Titana.
- Nazvao me i rekao: 'Znate, ono što trebamo napraviti je izgraditi podmornicu koja može na siguran način zaroniti do Titanica i pokazati svijetu kako je to moguće' - rekao je Lahey.
Potvrdio je da je bio blizak prijatelj s Paul-Henrijem Nargeoletom, jednim od putnika Titana i istraživačem morskih dubina.
- Još uvijek me neopisivo zbunjuje da je Paul-Henri bio uključen - dodao je Lahey.
