Commenting on the issue of the students from Bosna SEMA schools who did not get the awards despite of their worldwide success only because they belong to this group of schools, the Rector of the University of Sarajevo, Dr Rifat Skrijelj, in a short interview for Patria, said that he condemns any form of discrimination of students.
One of the students, Bahrudin Trbalic (he studies at the American MIT), was removed from the list of award winners without any explanation and his award will be given to somebody else.
Dr Skrijelj believes that the federal ministry of education and its minister Elvira Dilberovic are the ones to blame.
- The award giving body mustn't be influenced by anybody. An evaluation mustn't be discriminatory in any way, rector said, adding that it should have been clearly stated which criteria were not fulfilled.
- Our best students are not discriminated anywhere in the world. I think we have a real discrimination here in BiH and disrespecting the criteria. It is those students who later on come to study biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics...
He emphasized that the Bosna SEMA institutions adhere to the laws and policies of BiH, and have worked accordingly for years.
The rector also said that the cases such as this one tend to inflict a great damage to our young people who are respected experts elsewhere in the world.
