The unconstitutional Day of RS was officially celebrated in Brcko District. Milorad Dodik hosted a reception party with over 300 guests at one of hotels in Brcko. This event did not make a breaking news at the time in the ocean of other news.
It was conveniently forgotten that Bruce G. Berton, the Brcko District Supervisor, banned unconstitutional referendum directed by Dodik taking place on 25 September last year.
Berton replied to a letter from the Brcko mayor, Anto Domic, in which the mayor requested supervisor's permission to hold referendum of the RS on the territory of Brcko District for the RS citizens.
The High Representative clearly said that decision on referendum about the Day of RS is unconstitutional and as such contrary to the decision of the Constitutional Court of BiH. Hence my decision not to give my permission for holding the referendum on the Brcko District territory, Berton explained.
It was also forgotten that the Brcko District is under sovereignty of BiH, which is defined by the addendums to the Constitution of BiH, and stipulated in the Statute of the Brcko District, first pronounced by Robert W. Farrand, the first Supervisor for Brcko. Among other things, it means that state laws are above local laws.
In addition to the celebration, the Brcko District institutions introduced shorter work hours, as is case on all holidays marked by the District.
Brcko citizens are appalled by the decision on shorter work hours and celebration of the unconstitutional holiday, jointly approved by the District officials from SNSD, HDZ BiH and SDA. They expect the first deputy High Representative and the supervisor to react. Also, Brcko citizens are worried about silence of the high state officials, especially those from SDA and SBB as they seem not to have even noticed that Brcko District marked the Day of RS, by which the Court decision was violated.
The Deputy High Representative and the Supervisor will soon visit Brcko. One of the talking points will be marking of 9 January.
