Zrinjski defeats Velež in Mostar derby and takes top of the table

The derby match of the ninth round of the WWIN League of Bosnia and Herzegovina, i.e. the Mostar derby between Velež and Zrinjski, has ended.

In the end, the Zrinjski footballers were happier, celebrating a 1:0 victory.

The Zrinjski team imposed their tempo from the very start, keeping the ball in their possession more. Already in the third minute, Savić shot from distance, but the ball went wide of the goal.

Velež only freed themselves from Zrinjski's initial pressure around the tenth minute, and with crosses from Pršeš and Vehabović, they tried to find Mlinarić, but Zrinjski's defence reacted in time and cleared the danger. Hrkać also tried with a header in the 23rd minute, but the ball went over the goal.

Heavy rainfall prevented both teams from developing any serious and meaningful action. The pitch remained in good condition, but the rain simply did not allow for better player movement, nor for risking mistakes or injuries.

Nevertheless, in the 32nd minute, Zrinjski took the lead. After a cross and a poor reaction from Hadžikić, Mulahusejnović was the quickest to react and scored for 0:1.

In the 36th minute, we also recorded a scramble in front of Velež's goal, but the defence of the "Rođeni" cleared the danger at the last moment, and three minutes later, Malekinušić also hit the target, but the ball fell onto Velež's goal.

Zrinjski maintained control of the game until the end of the first half, and in the 44th minute, Topić also tried nicely from 20 metres, but Hadžikić saved his shot. Apart from that chance, we saw no other until the end of the half, so the teams went to the break with the visitors leading 1:0.

The second half offered literally no excitement. The cause was certainly the heavy rain, but also the complete control of the game by the visitors, who did not allow the hosts to create any serious action.

Only in the last 15 minutes did Velež take the initiative on the pitch, but they still failed to create a real chance. In the finish, we recorded two good attempts for Zrinjski, by Ćužet and Jurilj, but there was no change in the score.

With this victory, Zrinjski moved to the top of the table, while Velež remained in ninth place. In the next round, Velež will visit Sarajevo at "Koševo", while Zrinjski will host Igman from Konjic.
