Zrinjski wins the Bosnia and Herzegovina Cup

(Patria) - Football players of Mostar's Zrinjski have won the Bosnia and Herzegovina Cup for the 2025/26 season.

In today's second leg of the final at Rođeni stadium, the 'Plemići' drew 1:1 against Velež, which was enough for an overall victory of 2:1 after a minimal triumph in the first match.

Zrinjski took the lead in the fourth minute. Home goalkeeper Karić made a mistake when clearing the ball, and Bilbija capitalized on the gift, sending the rebound into the net for an early lead for the visitors, writes arenasport.

After a poor start to the match, Velež tried to respond and took the initiative. The hosts had their best chance in the 26th minute when Šarić hit the crossbar.

Zrinjski also threatened before halftime. Abramović shot powerfully on the second attempt, but Karić, with the help of the crossbar, managed to keep his net intact.

The start of the second half brought major problems for the match organizers.

In the 47th minute, the match was briefly interrupted after a pyrotechnic device fell near Zrinjski's goal and injured goalkeeper Karačić.

The situation worsened a few minutes later when Karačić was hit by pyrotechnics again. The visiting bench reacted, and coach Igor Štimac received a yellow card for protesting.

The climax occurred in the 62nd minute when a firecracker exploded near Zrinjski captain Nemanja Bilbija. The main referee Irfan Peljto then stopped the match and sent both teams to the dressing room.

After approximately a 15-minute break, Velež president Admir Rahimić addressed the home fans, appealing for the match to be concluded without further incidents, warning that another interruption would mean a definitive end to the game.

Upon resumption, Zrinjski had the opportunity to decide the winner. In the 70th minute, Peljto awarded a penalty after Pidra fouled Abramović. Bilbija took responsibility, but Karić redeemed himself for his earlier mistake and saved the penalty.

In the very final moments, Hrvoje Barišić received a second yellow card and was sent off in the 95th minute, while Spahić scored the final 1:1 goal with a header a minute later.

After that, Edo Vehabović also received a direct red card.

Zrinjski ultimately secured their new, fourth Bosnia and Herzegovina Cup title.
