(Patria) - The junior (U-18) national team of BiH lost to the Republic of Ireland today in the last round of the group stage of the European Championship Division B, after almost achieving a great comeback.
After an even second quarter (15:15), the young Irish basketball players dominated BiH in the second period with 25:3 and went into halftime with a significant lead (40:18).
At the start of the last 10 minutes, Ireland still had a decent lead (51:34), but then the players coached by selector Boris Jokanović started playing much more aggressively in defense and began to reduce the difference.
In the end, they had a chance to force overtime because they had the last possession at 57:54. However, they did not capitalize on it, and Ireland took the victory.
Among the BiH players, Ajdin Delić stood out with 11 points and Tarik Hrelja with as many as 15 rebounds. The Irish team was led by Luke Seltzer and Declan Gbinigie with 11 points each.
Our national team now faces a fight for survival in Division C, i.e., matches for placement from 17th to 22nd place.
