Dragons denied victory in Cyprus in the sixth minute of stoppage time

(Patria) - The Bosnia and Herzegovina national football team drew 2:2 tonight in Larnaca against the host Cyprus in the sixth round of qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Dragons conceded both goals in stoppage time - in both the first and second halves - and unfortunately, after leading 2:0, they took only one point tonight.

The first half was extremely interesting, and it must be admitted that we also had a fair amount of luck. Pittas shot from 14 meters, but it went wide of the goal. Alajbegović responded, but the home goalkeeper saved.

BiH took the lead in the tenth minute. Alajbegović delivered a corner, Katić headed the ball, the Cyprus goalkeeper saved, but Katić scored from the rebound to make it 1:0.

In the 32nd minute, the dangerous Pittas had another chance. Vasilj narrowed the angle well, and the home attacker shot wide of the goal.

We punished that in the 38th minute. Alajbegović took another corner, and goalkeeper Michael scored an unusual own goal. The situation was reviewed in the VAR room, and we could celebrate. It was a big 2:0.

Just before the break, in the first minute of stoppage time, Laifis reduced the deficit to 1:2, and then Tzionis had a chance to make it 2:2 in the next attack, but fortunately he was not accurate.

Cyprus dictated the tempo in the second half, but there were no big chances. In the 73rd minute, substitute Bajraktarević tried his luck, but it went just wide of the goal. A few minutes later, Memić had a chance, but he was also not accurate.

In the 95th minute, a penalty was awarded to Cyprus, caused by Šunjić. A VAR check followed, but the referee pointed to the spot. Pittas took the ball and equalised. It ended 2:2.

The Dragons now trail leaders Austria by two points, who thrashed San Marino 10:0 tonight. Romania has seven points, but with a game in hand.

Our footballers play a friendly match against lowly Malta on Sunday.
